V.A. - black slavery days

slavery

This album brings together four different groups, recorded during the same time and produced by Jack Ruby hi-fi,who also produced the'Marcus Garvey'
sessions for Burning Spear. This LP was released in 1982 though the session was recorded in 1975. Even though listed as a various artists LP, 'Black Slavery Days' feels more like one group throughout, with only the vocalists changing on tracks by Skulls, the Arrows and the Mercenarys. The backing is simply outstanding, the horn section featuring Vin Gordon, Herman Marquis and Bobbie Ellis are a class act, with other notable contributions coming from Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Tony Chin on guitar and Leroy Wallace on drums. The album is a mixture of original and dub versions, yet the versions are quite radically different thanks to the solid musicianship, and of the vocal cuts both the title track and the Arrows Seek Fire and Old Broom standout.
