Delroy Willliams - I stand black

Delroy Williams is an authentic a rastaman, born in 1948 in the country side of Jamaica. In the early sixties he started along with Ricky Grant and George Allison his first band called the Afri-tones.After recording several singles Ricky Grant leaves the band and was replaced by Shirley Forbes. They now called themselves the High-lites.Recording for One Studio, the group is baptized The Madlads by Clement Dodd. The trio had several successes like "Ten to One" (carried out in lead vocal by George Allisson) or "You' ll never know" (carried out by Delroy). In the early 70s it was time for Delroy to launch a solo career.
He recorded several song with the help of various producers. But his meeting in 1976 with producer and artist Augustus Pablo would be decisive for his further career.
As a founder of the rockers label he decided to take him in his community of loyal artists such as Hugh Mundell, Ricky Grant and Earl sixteen.
Delroy is immediately at ease in this community whose respect of the person, the research of spirituality and creation are the bases accepted by each one.

‘I stand black’ is born during one of Williams first meetings with Augustus Pablo and his crew, most songs first appeared as single only, but were later put together to form a complete album. Some songs are directly related to the everyday life of the group around Pablo,’mountain on the hill’ was for example written by Williams when the group went to the hills to meditate. ‘all the time’ speaks about friendship, while ‘think twice’ is a reflection to think twice before acting.
